This can be fixed by changing the settings in the Assisted GPS server. Do the following steps:
This setting should be set to No, because otherwise if you are in a different network than your home network your phone will not use GPS assistance, which results in a long wait to get a GPS fix.
Maps can be used offline to avoid data charges, however the following will not be available in Offline Mode:
You can switch between Online and Offline mode by going to the Maps Settings and:
Please Note: Switching between Online and Offline mode in Maps will not prevent data charges through the user of Positioning settings such as AGPS and WiFi/Network positioning. These will need to be turned off in the Positioning Settings on your phone. Please see your phone manual for more information.
You can check if your device has the latest compatible Map data simply by connecting your device to a PC running Nokia Suite and selecting View > Go To > Maps.
If you have a Mac, running Map Loader for Mac will advise you if there is an update to the Map data (applies for Maps 3.04 and older, version 3.06 and later not supported).
With Maps 3.06 and later you can check the availability of map data updates and do the update over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection by selecting:
You need to install the voice guidance pack to your device and select the desired voice pack in Maps before you can hear the navigation voice instructions. The voice guidance packs can be installed either via Nokia Suite or by downloading the voice packs directly to your device.
The voice packs with street names (voice packs with computer voices) can be used with both drive and walk navigation, the other voice packs are available only with drive navigation.
Installation via Nokia Suite:
Installation directly to the device:
Note that when downloading the voice guidance files directly to your device, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in data transfer costs.
In the Symbian^3 devices (e.g. Nokia N8-00, C6-01, C7-00) you can delete and rename a collection or route in the Favourites folder of Maps by long pressing the collection or route and selecting Delete or Rename.
In S60 5.0 devices with QWERTY keyboard (e.g. Nokia N97 mini) you can delete a collection or route by selecting it and pressing the backspace key on the keyboard.
If the deletion or renaming is not supported in your device or Maps version, it is possible to get the routes deleted or renamed by synchronising your favourites to maps.nokia.com, renaming or deleting the routes there and synchronising back to your device.
The deletion and renaming of the collections and routes is supported with Maps v3.06 and later.
Maps 3.06 is available for installation via Nokia Suite for selected Symbian^3 and S60 5th edition devices. To check the availability for your device and to install Maps 3.06, proceed as follows:
During the installation the old map data is deleted and updated with new map data. If any additional map data needs to be transferred to the device, select View > Go to > Maps in Nokia Suite to download the required map data.
Maps 3.06 is available at Nokia Store for selected Symbian devices and can be installed in the following way:
Note that the old map data is not compatible with version 3.06 and you need to delete the old data and re-download new map data when upgrading from an older Maps version.
In addition to Nokia Store, Maps 3.06 may also be available via the following channels for your device:
It is recommended to do the update with Nokia Suite if possible. When updating via Nokia Suite, the Maps application and the map data will automatically be updated. With the other update methods the new map data needs to be separately downloaded to the device after the application update.
In Ovi Maps 3.06 and later you will get a prompt to download the map data when entering Map menu if there is no map data already available. You have the following options to choose:
Get them via Wi-Fi
Use Ovi Suite
Use Ovi Maps online
It is preferred to use either the Wi-Fi downloading or Ovi Suite to download the required map data before starting to use Maps.
Adding and removing of the online services to the Maps menu grid can be done only when you are in the home network in online mode. When roaming to another operator network, it is not possible customise the online services that are shown in Maps main menu. You can, however, still access the available services via the More menu.
Note that the customisation of the Maps main menu requires Maps version 3.06.
Install the latest Maps 3.06 version. The Update command for downloading map data over Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection is available starting from version 3.06 10wk50. In the earlier 3.06 10wk46 release this command was not yet available.
