Tips for efficient use


You have efficient shortcuts in your Nokia N86 8MP device to make calls or perform some essential task instantly. You can also make the most of your device by using the handy kickstand or safe keypad lock to prevent unwanted dialling. Learn how here!


Efficient shortcuts

You have some efficient shortcuts in your Nokia N86 8MP device. Take them into use by learning which key does what.

Power key - Press once to switch between profiles. (General, Silent, Meeting, Outdoor, Pager, Offline, your own)
Power key - Press and hold to switch your device on and off.

Call key - Open the call log.
End key - Instantly return to standby mode.

0 - Press and hold to open your Bookmarks list for the Web.
1 - Press and hold to call your voice mailbox.
Number key (2-9) + Call key - Call a phone number using speed dialling.

- press and hold to activate the Silent profile. Press and hold again to return to the General profile.

Kickstand

You have a kickstand in your device. You can place your device on a table in a horizontal position and easily watch TV, videos, etc.

To use the kickstand, just lift the ring around the camera lens at the back.

Please note that the kickstand is active. That means that using the kickstand will open a selected application automatically. You can also deactivate this function. To do this, go to Tools > Settings > General > Personalization. Select Kickstand > None.

Lock the keys

To easily lock the keys, slide the lock switch on the side of the device. Locking the keys prevents any unwanted dialling. When the keys are locked, the screen is switched off and the keys are inactive.

You can set the keypad to lock automatically after a time-out. To set the time-out:

  1. Select Menu > Tools > Settings
  2. Select General > Security > Phone and SIM card
  3. Scroll to Keypad autolock period and press the scroll key. Select User defined and set the desired time. Select OK.

You can also set the screen and keys to be locked automatically when closing the slide. To change the settings for keyguard activation:

  1. Select Menu > Tools > Settings
  2. Select General > Slide handling > Keyguard activation
  3. Select the alternative that is best for your purposes:
    • Keyguard activation is on if closing slide
    • Always ask
    • Keyguard activation is off if closing slide
  4. When you have selected a suitable alternative, press scroll key or select OK.
  5. Select Back.
