Write by tapping the screen

There are several different ways which you can use to enter letters, numbers, and special characters on your device. You can either tap the characters with the stylus or your fingers with the virtual keyboards, or you can use handwriting to write characters directly onto the screen using the stylus as a pen.

  1. To start writing, just tap any text input field.
  2. Change the Input mode by tapping the keyboard icon. The different input methods are:
    • Handwriting - Use the stylus as a pen to write text. To write common characters and numbers, write the words as you normally write them.
    • Alphanumeric keypad - Enter characters like you would with a traditional phone keypad.
  3. When you tap an item, the current input method view closes and the selected one opens.
  4. When you have written the text, select the green V icon to close the keyboard.

Note that on the on-screen keyboard an arrow pointing to the left represents the backspace, which is usually marked on mobile phones as C. In handwriting the backspace gesture is a short horizontal line – drawn from right to left.

Intelligent text input

Your device supports various features which help you to write messages efficiently and quickly.

    • Autocompletion - When you start writing a word, your device suggests possible words. When the correct word is displayed, press Space to confirm it. To activate/deactivate predictive text input, select Options > Input options > Activate prediction/Deactivate prediction.
    • Autocorrection - suggests correct spellings of words when you mistype them. Autocorrection fills in missing letters, changes incorrect letters, removes duplicate letters, and helps with accenting and punctuation.
    • Ability to learn - your device learns new words from the user and also learns to propose words which are used frequently. If the word you wrote is not in the dictionary of the device, you can add it to the dictionary by typing it in and just selecting the word.
    • Long press - enables one-handed usability with the keyboard. You can type numbers and other characters (marked in the right corner of the key) behind the function key (Fn) by just pressing the corresponding key for a while.

You can define the settings for text input by selecting Options > Input options > Settings.
Change the writing language by selecting Options > Input options > Writing language.

Insert letters not shown on keyboard

It is possible to insert variations of letters, for example, letters with accents. For example, to insert á, press and hold the sym key, and simultaneously press the A key repeatedly, until á is displayed. Or, to insert ç, press and hold the sym key, and simultaneously press the C key repeatedly, until ç is displayed.

The order and availability of letters depends on the selected writing language.
