1. How do I use the keyguard on my Nokia phone?

To lock the keypad in standby mode, press Menu and the * key within 1.5 seconds.

To unlock the keypad, press Unlock and the * key within 1.5 seconds.

To answer a call when the keyguard is on, press the Call key. During a call, the phone can be operated normally. When you end or reject a call, the keypad automatically locks again. You can set whether the keyguard locks automatically or requires a code to unlock.

2. How do I check and manage the call timers on my Nokia phone?

Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may vary depending on network features, rounding off for billing, taxes, and so forth.

To activate the call timer, in the standby mode and while in a call, select Details > Show call time on display > On or Off.

To determine the duration of your calls, select Menu > Call log > Call timers > Duration of last call, Duration of dialed calls (Home or Roaming), Duration of received calls (Home or Roaming), Duration of all calls, Life timer, or Clear timers.

Clear timers sets all call timers, except the life timer, to zero. Enter your security code, and OK.

3. How do I select or customize a profile on my Nokia phone?

In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Profiles > the profile of your choice > Activate.

Customize a profile

You can customize the profiles in a variety of ways.

You cannot rename the Normal profile.

  1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Profiles.
  2. Highlight the profile you wish to customize; select "Customize", and the option you want to customize.

4. How do I set the backlight on my Nokia phone?

You can choose whether the backlights will be always on, off, or on for a selected time.


In the standby mode, select Menu >Settings > Display settings > Backlight timeout > 7 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, Always on, or Always off.

5. How do I use the gallery on my Nokia phone?

Pictures and ring tones can be saved to folders in the Gallery, or to folders created of your own. Images and tones can be downloaded using web sites or Nokia PC Suite.


Open the gallery

In the standby mode, select Menu > Gallery > View folders, Add folder, Delete folder, and Rename folder.

6. How do I change the lock code on my Nokia phone?

The preset lock code is 1234 or the last four digits of your phone number. If you enter an incorrect lock code five times in a row, your device will prompt you for the lock code.


If you enter the wrong lock code 5 times in succession, you will not be able to enter a code for 5 minutes, even if you power off the device between incorrect entries.

  1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Security settings > Change lock code.
  2. Enter the new lock code (must be 4 characters in length), reenter the new lock code for verification, and select OK.

When you change your lock code, make sure you store it in a safe place, away from your device. Avoid entering access codes similar to emergency numbers to prevent accidental emergency calls.

7. How do I setup and use the phone lock on my Nokia phone?

The phone lock feature protects your phone from unauthorized outgoing calls or unauthorized access to information stored in the phone. When phone lock is activated, "Phone locked" is displayed each time you turn your phone on.


When the phone is locked, calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your phone.

  1. At the main screen, select Menu > Settings > Security settings.
  2. Enter the lock code, and select OK.
  3. Select "Phone lock" and one of the following options:
  • Off - Immediately turns off the phone lock feature.
  • Lock now - Turns the phone lock feature on immediately.
  • On power-up - Turns the phone lock feature on immediately after the phone is turned off and then on.


"Call not allowed" is displayed if you attempt to place a call while the phone is locked.

To answer a call with phone lock on, select Answer, or press Call.

8. How do I add a contact to my Nokia phone?

Save a name and number
  1. At the Start screen, enter the phone number you wish to save.
  2. Select Options > Save and press Select.
  3. Enter the name and press OK.

Save (only) a number

  1. At the Start screen, enter the phone number you wish to save.
  2. Press and hold Options.

Save an entry

  1. At the Start screen, select Contacts > Add contact and press Select.
  2. Enter the name and press OK.
  3. Enter the phone number, and press OK > Done.

Save addresses and notes

Note: To save an address or note, you need to add it to an existing entry (contact).

  1. Scroll down to the entry to which you would like to add an address or note.
  2. With the entry highlighted, press Details.
  3. Select Options > Add detail and press Select. You can add an E-mail address, Web address, Street address, or Note to the entry.
  4. Scroll to the address or note of your choice and press Select.
